Why religion?

Because:

I went to church to find reason for my existence,

I went to temple to appreciate designed beauty,

I went to tabernacle to behold its godly divinity,

I went to shrine to confess my dark inner mind,

I went to mosque to learn knowledge of writing,

I went to stupa to meditate around a community,

I went to stone circle to dance and sing musically.

Why spirituality?

Because:

We were in a living forest offering care in service,

We were in distant lands seeing many differences,

We were in the grasses hunting eyes watching us,

We were in caves to understand death’s darkness,

We were in sacred places reliving shared memories,

We were in the river to commune with the faithful,

We were atop a mountain observing heavenly skies.

That is why.

It was where you could be apart with others,

Storing fragments of our evolving social mind,

Displaying the colourful expression of culture,

And finding place within the maze of civilization.
